When Dreams Come True
It was only three years ago when I found myself deeply tucked into an concierge's desk wondering how I could slip my next Southwest adventure into my tight schedule. I had just graduated from Northern Arizona University and moved to Sedona for the sole purpose of exploring the mystical landscape and hiking everyday in America's Day Hiking Capitol. At a young age (14yrs old) I had fallen deeply in love with Sedona's Red Rocks, hiking, climbing, fishing, bouldering, photography, creek life, and the interesting people living in this sacred place.
As I sat in another deep Red Rock dream, I was abruptly confronted by an energetic man named Dennis Andres ("Mr. Sedona"). He approached me with a smile on his face and slipped me a folded note, instructing me to open it following his departure. We pseudo knew each other from intersecting hiking routes and spoke briefly. As I almost slipped back into my next mountaineering fantasy I opened up the note. I couldn't help but smile as I read the jolted handwriting saying, "Would you like to never work another day in your life?" with his number prescribed below.
After pretending to contemplate my options and act like I wasn't overly desperate to participate in whatever he was talking about; I would later call him two days later. Little did I know he was inviting me into a future I had never once considered. More over, I like to think he invited me to partake in my destiny that day as I would become the newest member of his elite company, Sedona Private Guides.
After training with Dennis for the better part of three years and learning from his mastery of trail knowledge, guiding, and outdoor safety I finally felt I was ready to start my own company in 2012. I began working with the The Hike House in the Summer of 2012, where they've offered my the opportunity to operate as their exclusive guiding service through Northern Arizona and the Southwest!! This opportunity led to the creation of Trail Lovers Excursions and ultimately my dream come true.
I can now honestly admit, "I do what I love, and I love what I do." My passion for the outdoors, preservation, native/cultural histories, and adventure has allowed me the opportunity to work with The New York Times, Backpacker Magazine, It's a Wildlife, Trail Runner Magazine, Sony, and many others with a shared passion for the great outdoors.
I'm thankful for the opportunities I've enjoyed and excited for what the future may hold!! With over 6,000 miles hiked through Northern Arizona thus far I've now become a Red Rock expert and the owner of Sedona's best new adventure company!!
